What I Learned from Reba, Our Golden Doodle

Our dog, Reba, just adores my wife, Audrey. And vice versa. (I adore her too.) It’s beautiful to see them together. I joke that a picture of the two of them is our “Family Portrait”. Well it isn’t entirely a joke.😀 In truth, Reba and I get along really well, but as it is said, Audrey is Reba’s “person”.

Even though I pet Reba a lot, she shows Audrey much more affection— nose kisses, licks, cuddling, etc.

I wanted more love. In the hope of getting it, I started petting Reba more, and I got myself into the mindset when petting Reba of hoping that this would increase the amount of affection she would show me. Needlelss to say, there was no change. Silly me.

So the idea came to me to pet her more and do it with only the mindset that “I love her, I want her to be happy, and I want her to feel good.” In other words, I took myself out of the equation. Lo and behold, within a week or so, she started showing me more affection.

Dogs, horses, and so many other animals are amazing teachers.
